5. Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad spa town)
Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) is the most famous of all the Bohemian spas. It was named after Charles (Karel) IV who allegedly found the springs in 1358 when chasing a deer on hunt. The town later became to be a place where royalty came here from all over Europe for treatment. The cure today is a complex treatment consisting mainly in drinking the water directly from the spring but the cure further includes carbon dioxide baths, water therapy, massages, mud-baths, packs, electrotherapy etc. Now there are treated gastric disorders, gall-bladder, liver-, stomach-, metabolic disturbances. A town where an international film festival is held every July and where Bechrovka liquer, Moser glass, Thun porcelain and Mattoni mineral water originated.
