Pilsen – Metropolis of West Bohemia. Since its foundation in 1295, The City of Pilsen has naturally become a cultural and economic centre of the West Bohemia.
The city centre with its many historical landmarks has been declared a protected historic area. Many of the buildings rank among true gems of architecture, namely the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew (a listed building), the Renaissance City Hall, the Great Synagogue or the sgrafitti by Mikolas Ales on the front facades of burgher houses. Favourite tourist destinations include, apart from the world renowned Pilsner Urquell brewery, also the ZOO and Botanical Gardens and the adjacent DinoPark.
Plzensky Prazdroj is a leading Czech and European brewing company. It symbolises the best traditions of this important industrial sector, and was responsible for assisting its development through a truly revolutionary event. In 1842, the forerunners of today’s Plzensky Prazdroj produced the first brew of bottom-fermented lager, which gave its name to the largest category of beers in the world. Pilsner Urquell is the epitome of the category “Czech beers of the Pilsen type”, the largest and most wide-ranging category of beer in the Czech Republic.
Through its brands Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus, Radegast a Velkopopovicky Kozel, Plzensky Prazdroj sells more beer on the Czech market than any other company.
