On November 17, 1989, a peaceful student demonstration in Prague was beaten by the riot police. That event initiated subsequent demonstrations held in the whole country to late December which led to the collapse of the communist regime. Steps by step communists were loosing their power and giving up their monopoly on everything. Václav Havel, a famous playwright and a dissident, was elected the President of Czechoslovakia on December 29, 1989. Finally, the first democratic elections since 1946 were held in June, 1990.

During this walk we will trace back these crucial events in our history, will visit places where the demonstrations were held and will talk about the “life before and after”. We will also visit the Museum of Communism with an interesting exhibition and a short film played.

Public transportation and walking on flat smooth surfaces.
